Wise bank feed for Xero: import Wise statements as a live feed

Wise Business connects to Xero as a direct feed, but one Xero account per currency balance and roughly twelve months of backfill. Personal Wise accounts get no feed at all. StatementClear posts those Wise statements into Xero as live bank feed lines, deduped against whatever the native feed already caught.

Wise Business has a native Xero feed, and when your setup fits it, use it. The people searching this page usually do not fit: a personal Wise account doing business duty has no feed at all - that is a manual import every month, permanently - the connection drops whenever someone with Standard or Adviser permissions disconnects it, and each currency balance only syncs on the feed's own narrow terms. StatementClear turns the statements Wise already gives you into a live bank feed in Xero instead - every month, not just for the catch-up.

Where the native Wise feed falls short

Wise has a native Xero direct feed for business accounts, syncing roughly every four hours. But it is per-currency (each balance needs a same-currency Xero account on a multi-currency plan), backfill stops at one year, and personal accounts and older history still come down to manual imports.

Wise exports one statement per currency balance, as PDF or CSV, each with its own running balance - genuinely useful, because it gives StatementClear something to verify your postings against. Two things trip people up. First, the Amount on a transfer already includes the Wise fee, with the fee repeated in a separate Total fees column that is informational only - add them together and every payment is overstated. Second, a conversion between balances appears on both currency statements, once on each side, so importing both sides carelessly double-counts the move. The sign convention itself is simple: one signed Amount column, negative for money out.

The manual way, every month

  • Log in and export a statement (and hope the format didn't change)
  • Reformat columns, dates and signs until Xero's importer accepts it
  • Upload the CSV into the right account and pray nothing doubled up
  • Eyeball the balance, fix what broke, repeat next month

And after all that, it still isn't a feed - it's a one-off import you'll redo next month.

The StatementClear way: a real feed

Upload the statement and it posts into Xero as a live bank feed through Xero's Bank Feeds API - deduped, balance-checked and ready to reconcile. Not another file to import. Converters hand you a CSV; this arrives in Xero the way a bank feed does.

  1. Step 1

    Connect Xero

Link your org and pick the account that is missing transactions.

  2. Step 2

    Upload your Wise statement

PDF, CSV or Excel - whatever you can export. Map the columns once and we remember the mapping.

  3. Step 3

    We check it first

Duplicates are skipped, the running balance is verified, and sign errors are caught before anything posts.

  4. Step 4

    It lands as a feed

Clean lines arrive in Xero through the Bank Feeds API, ready to reconcile.

Questions about Wise and Xero

When you are outside the native feed's coverage: a personal or joint Wise account used for business, a balance the native sync will not map, a connection that keeps getting dropped, or history older than the feed's one-year backfill. You upload the statement Wise gives you and StatementClear posts it into Xero as a live feed, deduped and balance-checked - the lines land the way native feed lines do, month after month.

One StatementClear feed per Xero bank account, so one per currency - the same way Xero treats currencies everywhere else. Download each currency's statement from Wise and upload it to its own feed; the column mapping is saved after the first upload. Because Wise statements carry a running balance, StatementClear checks each upload against it before anything posts.

A real feed. StatementClear posts lines through Xero's Bank Feeds API, so they arrive in Xero the way native feed transactions do - ready to reconcile, no import screen. Converters hand you another file to upload; this gives you the feed.

As far back as Wise lets you export. The native feed backfills about twelve months; StatementClear works from the statement file, so a three-year-old period posts exactly like last month's, deduped against anything already sitting in the account.

Where this comes from

Everything above about what Xero's native feed covers, what its manual import accepts and how feed lines reach a bank account comes from Xero's own documentation. The relevant pages are below, so you can check the claim rather than take it.

  • Import a CSV bank statementThe manual import: the formats it accepts, and how it handles lines it has seen before.
