Credit card bank feed for Xero: for the cards Xero cannot feed

Xero has direct feeds for many bank-issued cards, usually only for eligible account types and typically the primary card. Corporate cards, store cards, foreign-issued cards and smaller issuers sit outside that coverage. StatementClear posts those card statements into Xero as live feed lines, with the sign convention handled.

If the company card is not one of the feed-eligible ones, its transactions never reach Xero on their own. That means a monthly download, a sign-flip on every purchase, and a CSV import that quietly reverses the whole month if you get the signs wrong. StatementClear posts the same statement into Xero as a live bank feed instead - deduped, balance-checked, ready to reconcile.

Where credit card feeds fall short

Xero has direct feeds for many major bank-issued credit cards, and providers such as American Express offer feeds in several regions - but usually only for eligible account types, and typically the primary card. Corporate cards, store cards, foreign-issued cards and plenty of smaller issuers sit outside that coverage, so many card accounts still have no feed at all.

Credit card statements are where sign errors live. Xero expects purchases as negative amounts and repayments as positive on a manual import, but most card statements print spend as unsigned positives, and some use DR and CR markers instead of signs - a straight import silently reverses the month. Statement periods rarely match calendar months either, so transactions near the cut-off are easy to import twice or miss entirely. Many card PDFs also leave the running balance off the transaction listing, which removes the one check that would catch these mistakes. StatementClear runs sign and direction checks on every upload and dedupes against what it has already posted, so a reversed or overlapping statement gets caught before it reaches the ledger.

The manual way, every month

  • Log in and export a statement (and hope the format didn't change)
  • Reformat columns, dates and signs until Xero's importer accepts it
  • Upload the CSV into the right account and pray nothing doubled up
  • Eyeball the balance, fix what broke, repeat next month

And after all that, it still isn't a feed - it's a one-off import you'll redo next month.

The StatementClear way: a real feed

Upload the statement and it posts into Xero as a live bank feed through Xero's Bank Feeds API - deduped, balance-checked and ready to reconcile. Not another file to import. Converters hand you a CSV; this arrives in Xero the way a bank feed does.

  1. Step 1

    Connect Xero

Link your org and pick the account that is missing transactions.

  2. Step 2

    Upload your credit card statement

PDF, CSV or Excel - whatever you can export. Map the columns once and we remember the mapping.

  3. Step 3

    We check it first

Duplicates are skipped, the running balance is verified, and sign errors are caught before anything posts.

  4. Step 4

    It lands as a feed

Clean lines arrive in Xero through the Bank Feeds API, ready to reconcile.

Questions about credit cards and Xero

Not through StatementClear. Xero's manual import expects purchases as negatives and repayments as positives, which is why hand-built CSVs so often reverse the month. StatementClear detects the statement's sign convention and runs direction checks, so a flipped month is flagged before anything posts.

It is the classic way card imports go wrong, because statement periods rarely line up with calendar months. StatementClear dedupes every upload against the lines already posted to the feed, so overlapping statements do not create duplicate transactions in Xero.

A real feed. StatementClear posts through Xero's Bank Feeds API, so the lines arrive in Xero the same way native feed lines do - sitting in the account, ready to reconcile. There is no CSV to download and re-import.

Yes. Each card gets its own Xero bank account and its own feed, so a corporate card and a supplementary card reconcile separately. If your issuer only exports a combined statement, the lines still post to whichever account you mapped them to.

Where this comes from

Everything above about what Xero's native feed covers, what its manual import accepts and how feed lines reach a bank account comes from Xero's own documentation. The relevant pages are below, so you can check the claim rather than take it.
