Square has no Xero bank feed. Import the Square balance as one.

Xero offers no native bank feed for the Square balance. Square's own Xero integration posts a daily summarised sales invoice into a clearing account, which is a sales sync, not a feed. StatementClear posts the balance's own ins and outs into Xero as live feed lines, so payouts reconcile as transfers.

Your bank feed shows one net deposit per Square transfer - sales minus fees, refunds and tips - and Xero never sees what happened inside the balance. So each month someone exports the transfer report and reverse-engineers the difference by hand. StatementClear turns that same export into a live bank feed in Xero, deduped and checked, so payouts reconcile as simple transfers.

Why there is no feed for your Square balance

Xero does not currently offer a native bank feed for the Square balance itself. Square's own Xero integration posts a daily summarised sales invoice into a clearing account, which is a sales sync rather than a feed - the balance's own ins and outs never arrive in Xero as bank feed lines.

Square settles net: each transfer bundles sales, refunds, tips and per-transaction fees into a single deposit, and that one figure is all your bank feed sees. The detail lives in the transfer and transaction CSVs on the Square Dashboard, which report gross, fee and net for every payment - three amounts per line where Xero wants one, so the column you map decides whether your ledger shows takings or takings-less-fees. Transfers also refuse to line up with calendar days: a weekend's trading typically rolls into one Monday deposit, which is why deposit-by-deposit matching against daily sales never quite works. StatementClear maps the export once, keeps gross activity and fee lines separate, and posts the Square balance as its own live feed - so the net transfers landing at the bank reconcile as transfers between two fed accounts.

The manual way, every month

  • Log in and export a statement (and hope the format didn't change)
  • Reformat columns, dates and signs until Xero's importer accepts it
  • Upload the CSV into the right account and pray nothing doubled up
  • Eyeball the balance, fix what broke, repeat next month

And after all that, it still isn't a feed - it's a one-off import you'll redo next month.

The StatementClear way: a real feed

Upload the statement and it posts into Xero as a live bank feed through Xero's Bank Feeds API - deduped, balance-checked and ready to reconcile. Not another file to import. Converters hand you a CSV; this arrives in Xero the way a bank feed does.

  1. Step 1

    Connect Xero

Link your org and pick the account that is missing transactions.

  2. Step 2

    Upload your Square statement

PDF, CSV or Excel - whatever you can export. Map the columns once and we remember the mapping.

  3. Step 3

    We check it first

Duplicates are skipped, the running balance is verified, and sign errors are caught before anything posts.

  4. Step 4

    It lands as a feed

Clean lines arrive in Xero through the Bank Feeds API, ready to reconcile.

Questions about Square and Xero

Both, in the right places. The Square balance feed carries the gross activity and the fee lines; your bank account already shows the net deposits. With both sides present, each payout reconciles as a transfer and the fees stop disappearing into the difference.

No. That app posts a daily summary invoice, which is a sales record, not a feed - the balance's actual movements never become bank lines. StatementClear takes the export you upload and posts the balance activity through Xero's Bank Feeds API, so it lands as feed lines ready to reconcile.

The transaction or transfer CSV from the Square Dashboard works, and so does a PDF statement. You map the columns once - including which of gross, fee and net to use - and the mapping is saved for every future upload on that feed.

As a transfer. The Square balance becomes its own Xero account holding the gross sales, fees, refunds and tips; the payout leaves that account and arrives on your bank feed as the same figure, so the two match off instead of being reverse-engineered.

Where this comes from

Everything above about what Xero's native feed covers, what its manual import accepts and how feed lines reach a bank account comes from Xero's own documentation. The relevant pages are below, so you can check the claim rather than take it.
