Airwallex bank feed for Xero: import the history the feed will not sync
Airwallex has one of the better native Xero feeds: one per currency wallet, syncing hourly. Nothing from before activation ever syncs automatically, and the automated look-back reaches 90 days. Airwallex is the rare platform with a genuinely good native Xero feed - per-currency wallets, hourly sync. The trouble is the edges: nothing from before you activated the feed ever syncs automatically, the automated sync reaches back 90 days at most, and every extra currency needs a Xero plan that carries it. If you connected late or your plan does not stretch, that gap is yours to fill by hand each month - or once, properly, as a feed through StatementClear.
Where the native Airwallex feed falls short
Airwallex has a native Xero bank feed, one per currency wallet, syncing hourly - one of the better native options. Its limits sit at the edges: multiple currencies need a multi-currency Xero plan, nothing from before feed activation syncs automatically, and the automated sync looks back 90 days at most (365 with a manual re-sync).
Airwallex creates one Xero feed per currency wallet, named in the pattern AWX_{account nickname}_{currency}, and syncing more than one currency requires a Xero plan with multi-currency support. First activation only backfills seven days of transactions; older activity needs the manual sync-older-transactions tool, which reaches back 365 days at most, and anything from before the feed existed will not sync automatically at all. The feed also only carries transactions that touch a wallet balance, so activity settled elsewhere never appears in Xero. For the gaps, Airwallex exports statements per currency as CSV or PDF, with opening and closing balances that give StatementClear something concrete to check your postings against.
The manual way, every month
- Log in and export a statement (and hope the format didn't change)
- Reformat columns, dates and signs until Xero's importer accepts it
- Upload the CSV into the right account and pray nothing doubled up
- Eyeball the balance, fix what broke, repeat next month
And after all that, it still isn't a feed - it's a one-off import you'll redo next month.
