ANZ bank feed for Xero: import ANZ statements as a live feed

ANZ's direct Xero feed covers transaction, savings, loan, funds management and credit card accounts, but it explicitly excludes asset finance products, ANZ Smart Choice Super and foreign currency accounts. Those are permanent exclusions, not outages, so no amount of reconnecting will produce a feed. StatementClear posts statements from those accounts into Xero as live bank feed lines, deduped and balance-checked.

ANZ's direct feed is one of the better ones in Australia, and for a standard transaction or credit card account it does the job. This page is for the accounts it will not touch. ANZ excludes asset finance products, ANZ Smart Choice Super and foreign currency accounts from bank feeds entirely, and that is a policy exclusion rather than a fault, so waiting or reapplying changes nothing. A business holding a USD or NZD balance with ANZ, or running equipment finance, has an account that will never feed and a reconciliation that is manual forever. StatementClear turns the statements ANZ already produces into a live Xero feed, every month.

Where the native ANZ feed falls short

ANZ has a direct Xero feed covering most of its range, including transaction, savings, loan, funds management and credit card accounts. Three categories are excluded outright: asset finance products, ANZ Smart Choice Super, and foreign currency accounts. Activation is next day for a weekday request, but a request made over a weekend does not start feeding until the following Tuesday.

The foreign currency exclusion is the one that hurts most, because it is exactly the account where manual entry is riskiest. An ANZ foreign currency statement is denominated in its own currency, so it needs a matching Xero bank account on a multi-currency plan, and every line has to keep its original currency amount rather than a converted one. Enter those by hand and the FX gain or loss at period end is built on numbers nobody can trace back. ANZ statements do carry a running balance, which gives StatementClear something real to verify against: it checks the closing balance on every upload before posting and dedupes against the lines already in the account, so a month posted late lands exactly like a month posted on time.

The manual way, every month

  • Log in and export a statement (and hope the format didn't change)
  • Reformat columns, dates and signs until Xero's importer accepts it
  • Upload the CSV into the right account and pray nothing doubled up
  • Eyeball the balance, fix what broke, repeat next month

And after all that, it still isn't a feed - it's a one-off import you'll redo next month.

The StatementClear way: a real feed

Upload the statement and it posts into Xero as a live bank feed through Xero's Bank Feeds API - deduped, balance-checked and ready to reconcile. Not another file to import. Converters hand you a CSV; this arrives in Xero the way a bank feed does.

  1. Step 1

    Connect Xero

Link your org and pick the account that is missing transactions.

  2. Step 2

    Upload your ANZ statement

PDF, CSV or Excel - whatever you can export. Map the columns once and we remember the mapping.

  3. Step 3

    We check it first

Duplicates are skipped, the running balance is verified, and sign errors are caught before anything posts.

  4. Step 4

    It lands as a feed

Clean lines arrive in Xero through the Bank Feeds API, ready to reconcile.

Questions about ANZ and Xero

ANZ excludes foreign currency accounts from bank feeds as a matter of policy, along with asset finance products and ANZ Smart Choice Super. It is not an outage or a failed application, so reapplying will not help. Those accounts stay manual for as long as you hold them, which is why StatementClear exists: you upload the ANZ statement and it posts into Xero as live feed lines, in the account's own currency.

Most of the range: transaction, savings, loan, funds management and credit card accounts. The three exclusions are asset finance, ANZ Smart Choice Super and foreign currency accounts. If your account is in the eligible list, set up the ANZ feed and use it. StatementClear is for the accounts that are not, and for history the feed will not backfill.

Probably not. ANZ activates a weekday request the next day, but a request made over a weekend does not start feeding until the following Tuesday. If the account is eligible and it is still empty after that, treat it as a genuine fault. Either way, StatementClear can post the intervening statement so the gap does not sit in your ledger while you wait.

A real feed. StatementClear posts lines through Xero's Bank Feeds API, so they arrive the way native feed transactions do, ready to reconcile with no import screen. A converter hands you another file to upload; this gives you the feed.

Where this comes from

Everything above about what Xero's native feed covers, what its manual import accepts and how feed lines reach a bank account comes from Xero's own documentation. The relevant pages are below, so you can check the claim rather than take it.

  • Import a CSV bank statementThe manual import: the formats it accepts, and how it handles lines it has seen before.
