NAB bank feed for Xero: import NAB statements as a live feed
NAB connects to Xero directly from NAB Internet Banking, the NAB app or NAB Connect, and feeds run daily once active. The gaps are eligibility and access: NAB decides which account types qualify, sub cards under a primary card generally get no feed, and the setup needs Administrator rights that the person doing the books often does not hold. StatementClear posts those NAB statements into Xero as live bank feed lines, deduped against whatever the native feed already brought in.
NAB has a genuine direct feed to Xero, and where it covers your account, use it. The people who land on this page are usually outside it. Setting the feed up requires Administrator rights in NAB Internet Banking or NAB Connect, which the bookkeeper or external accountant frequently does not have, so the request sits with a director who is not in a hurry. Without NAB Internet Banking at all, the fallback is a paper Authority to disclose information form and the wait that comes with it. And NAB itself decides which account types are eligible, so a card or a facility that is not on its list has no feed to apply for. StatementClear turns the statements NAB already gives you into a live Xero feed instead, every month, not just to cover a gap.

Where the native NAB feed falls short
NAB has a direct Xero feed set up from NAB Internet Banking, the NAB app or NAB Connect, and it imports transactions daily once running. It is NAB, not Xero, that decides which accounts qualify: an account type NAB does not list simply has no feed available, and a sub card sitting under a primary card usually cannot get one because the feed is issued against the primary card only.
NAB exports transactions from Internet Banking and NAB Connect as CSV, and the two are not the same file. NAB Connect exports carry more columns and a different date format than the retail Internet Banking export, so a mapping built against one will not read the other cleanly. NAB's CSV also splits money in and money out across separate debit and credit columns rather than using a single signed amount, which is the format Xero's manual import handles least well and the one most likely to post an entire statement with the signs inverted. StatementClear maps those columns once per account and remembers the mapping, checks the running balance against the statement's own figures, and dedupes against the lines already in the account before anything posts.
The manual way, every month
- Log in and export a statement (and hope the format didn't change)
- Reformat columns, dates and signs until Xero's importer accepts it
- Upload the CSV into the right account and pray nothing doubled up
- Eyeball the balance, fix what broke, repeat next month
And after all that, it still isn't a feed - it's a one-off import you'll redo next month.
The StatementClear way: a real feed
Upload the statement and it posts into Xero as a live bank feed through Xero's Bank Feeds API - deduped, balance-checked and ready to reconcile. Not another file to import. Converters hand you a CSV; this arrives in Xero the way a bank feed does.
- Step 1
Connect Xero
Link your org and pick the account that is missing transactions.
- Step 2
Upload your NAB statement
PDF, CSV or Excel - whatever you can export. Map the columns once and we remember the mapping.
- Step 3
We check it first
Duplicates are skipped, the running balance is verified, and sign errors are caught before anything posts.
- Step 4
It lands as a feed
Clean lines arrive in Xero through the Bank Feeds API, ready to reconcile.
